Winter & Halloween: Limited-Time Events vs. Permanent DLCs

We’re nearing the end of a long road of development with turning the 2022 Halloween and Winter limited-time events into permanent House Party seasonal DLCs!

Soon, we’ll share an official roadmap with the exciting news that both of our seasonal DLCs should (fingers crossed!) be releasing by the end of May to all players! These are free DLCs made to enrich the base game experience with holiday themes, so we hope you pick them up and enjoy the seasonal aesthetics!

We want to thank everybody for being so patient. These took longer than expected to get ready, but, thanks to moving a bit slower on getting them ready, we’ve actually been able to work on them these past few months without sacrificing too much time on our regular development schedule – which is awesome for those of you who are excited about the big things (like Liz Katz) coming soon to the party!

So, what took so long, anyway, Eek? Weren’t these events pretty much done already?

To really answer this question, we have to look back at last year. We decided, right before Halloween, to drop a couple of fun things into the game with the intention that they would be removed after the event. They weren’t built to stay in the game long-term, both because of base game bloat and because there was no framework in place to actually support their existence.

When you doods loved the Halloween event, we decided to try to squeeze in some Winter content, too. Winter was even bigger, since we tried to fit in more of your feedback from the Holiday Feedback Form, and it also wasn’t built to be in the game long-term. Instead of just cosmetics, we added in a snowball throwing mechanic, voice line reactions for characters being hit by snowballs, new shirts, new headbands, falling snow, new decorations, an achievement, and an entire Frank side-quest.

And that was awesome! So awesome that a bunch of you wanted both the Halloween and Winter holiday content to be permanent, which we definitely weren’t prepared for. But we thought that was a great idea, and we really wanted to make that happen for everyone – but we wanted to make sure we were doing that the right way.

What IS the right way? And will these events look any different?

Both the Halloween and Winter permanent DLCs will look exactly like the seasonal events you remember from 2022, but they are actually very different on the inside.

We know this isn’t super exciting from a player standpoint, but we hope that you’re excited for the future: Since we built these events properly for permanent use as DLCs, we’ll be able to add more content to them easier, and it’ll bring you a better gameplay experience long-term!

So, what’s been restructured, exactly?

We made it so the event won’t bloat your base game if you don’t want it added!
We made it so you can toggle the DLC on and off if you don’t feel like seeing the Halloween (or Winter) aesthetic during a certain play session!
We made it so the content won’t cause any foreseeable major bugs/issues with the base game long-term by being added!
And, best of all, we future-proofed this baby! 🤘

What does “future-proofed” mean?

First, it means we made it so we can add extra content (cosmetics, decorations, side-quests, achievements, etc.) to the Halloween (or Winter) Holiday Pack as time permits!

They’re built to support more content updates, brahs! But, even better, it means we can add some exciting new features to the DLCs in the future.

While we don’t want to spoil everything, we’ve also started running an invisible framework beneath this DLC for something really exciting.

You shouldn’t see a difference, but it’s there. We’ll share more info on this soon!

In the meantime, remember, the permanent seasonal DLCs won’t “look” much different from the original limited time 2022 events (besides a toggle on/off DLC button)!

Still, we hope those of you who have been waiting for them to return again! Thanks a ton for your patience. You won’t have to wait much longer, partiers!

Get up close and personal with Liz in a hot and thrilling new adventure that doesn’t hold back, and is full of mysterious and sensual surprises. Be prepared for the lights to go out, fear to reign, and unsolved mysteries to come to light in this wild new comedy-noir DLC!

Iconic for her petite and pretty style, high energy, quirky personality, and snarky sense of humor, Liz Katz is the perfect guest to explore this crazy new story with, and she’s sure to steal your heart, make you laugh, and get you worked up with her sultry and playful personality.

So, who is Liz Katz? A total video game, fantasy game, comic book, and sci-fi fan, she began cosplaying professionally in 2012 after winning IGN’s Best Cosplay at WonderCon 2012. With that in mind, you can definitely expect Liz’s in-game persona to bring plenty of exciting props, costumes, and items to the party, too!

But she’s not just a major cosplay babe, you might also know her from her acting endeavors or as the voice of Bloodshine in Borderlands 3. And, yeah, brahs, she’ll be doing the full voice acting for her House Party story, as well.

She’s also a YouTuber and Twitch streamer, and she’s been a big House Party fan since she first played it in 2020. She knows the party, loves the party, and adores House Party’s players.

So, even if this is your first time hearing about Liz Katz, we’re sure you’ll be absolutely charmed by her once you get to know her – and we’re excited to see her bring a bit of mystery to the party!

Speaking of mysteries, we’re stoked to share that the official title of the new expansion is House Party – Detective Liz Katz in a Gritty Kitty Murder Mystery.

A New House Party Expansion Pack Is Coming In Late 2023!

New clothing, a short side-story, and two original characters will join the party soon!

Get ready to party even harder with a brand new DLC featuring a variety of exciting and original content fresh from the minds of Eek! Games!

The DLC will include a uniquely themed House Party side-story, a set of clothing items that can be worn by the entire cast of characters and, the thing we’re most excited about: two new original characters specific to the additional storyline who will join the party later this year!

One of the upcoming guests will be female and the other will be male. That way, we can satisfy the overwhelming demand for more female characters, while also ensuring that male-preferring players have another partier to bond with!

We’ll be announcing an official DLC title and more info on the House Party – New Content Expansion Pack soon, so wishlist it now and keep an eye out for more updates!

Thank you to everyone who shared an opinion with us via our recent “Future of House Party” Feedback Form!

We’re taking your responses to heart so we can make the best possible House Party experience for as many players as we can! We’ve got a lot of information on possible directions to take future content for the game now, and we hope you’re looking forward to seeing us put your feedback into action!

The House Party – New Content Expansion Pack was actually created just for this purpose. It will bring loads of new content to satisfy players who want more original story, characters, and characters based on the House Party universe!

It will also feature a new type of clothing that was most highly requested from the feedback form and incorporate a handful of written suggestions that were sent in at the bottom of the survey. It was made for you, brahs, so we hope you enjoy it!

For those of you who are looking forward to more real-life guests joining the fun (instead of more House Party universe content), the House Party – Murder Mystery Expansion Pack will still be releasing this summer, as originally planned.

As mentioned in previous news posts, our next real-life guest is excited to personally introduce herself to you…in a special custom-made costume. Everything is being finalized for this, and we’re preparing to share the big announcement with you within a couple of weeks!

We hope you’re looking forward to officially meeting the new guest! We’re sure she’s going to, like, totally steal your heart, brahs!
