Winter & Halloween: Limited-Time Events vs. Permanent DLCs

We’re nearing the end of a long road of development with turning the 2022 Halloween and Winter limited-time events into permanent House Party seasonal DLCs!

Soon, we’ll share an official roadmap with the exciting news that both of our seasonal DLCs should (fingers crossed!) be releasing by the end of May to all players! These are free DLCs made to enrich the base game experience with holiday themes, so we hope you pick them up and enjoy the seasonal aesthetics!

We want to thank everybody for being so patient. These took longer than expected to get ready, but, thanks to moving a bit slower on getting them ready, we’ve actually been able to work on them these past few months without sacrificing too much time on our regular development schedule – which is awesome for those of you who are excited about the big things (like Liz Katz) coming soon to the party!

So, what took so long, anyway, Eek? Weren’t these events pretty much done already?

To really answer this question, we have to look back at last year. We decided, right before Halloween, to drop a couple of fun things into the game with the intention that they would be removed after the event. They weren’t built to stay in the game long-term, both because of base game bloat and because there was no framework in place to actually support their existence.

When you doods loved the Halloween event, we decided to try to squeeze in some Winter content, too. Winter was even bigger, since we tried to fit in more of your feedback from the Holiday Feedback Form, and it also wasn’t built to be in the game long-term. Instead of just cosmetics, we added in a snowball throwing mechanic, voice line reactions for characters being hit by snowballs, new shirts, new headbands, falling snow, new decorations, an achievement, and an entire Frank side-quest.

And that was awesome! So awesome that a bunch of you wanted both the Halloween and Winter holiday content to be permanent, which we definitely weren’t prepared for. But we thought that was a great idea, and we really wanted to make that happen for everyone – but we wanted to make sure we were doing that the right way.

What IS the right way? And will these events look any different?

Both the Halloween and Winter permanent DLCs will look exactly like the seasonal events you remember from 2022, but they are actually very different on the inside.

We know this isn’t super exciting from a player standpoint, but we hope that you’re excited for the future: Since we built these events properly for permanent use as DLCs, we’ll be able to add more content to them easier, and it’ll bring you a better gameplay experience long-term!

House Party Stable Release 1.0.3 - Halloween Update

So, what’s been restructured, exactly?

  • We made it so the event won’t bloat your base game if you don’t want it added!
  • We made it so you can toggle the DLC on and off if you don’t feel like seeing the Halloween (or Winter) aesthetic during a certain play session!
  • We made it so the content won’t cause any foreseeable major bugs/issues with the base game long-term by being added!
  • And, best of all, we future-proofed this baby! 🤘

What does “future-proofed” mean?

First, it means we made it so we can add extra content (cosmetics, decorations, side-quests, achievements, etc.) to the Halloween (or Winter) Holiday Pack as time permits!

They’re built to support more content updates, brahs! But, even better, it means we can add some exciting new features to the DLCs in the future.

While we don’t want to spoil everything, we’ve also started running an invisible framework beneath this DLC for something really exciting.

You shouldn’t see a difference, but it’s there. We’ll share more info on this soon!

In the meantime, remember, the permanent seasonal DLCs won’t “look” much different from the original limited time 2022 events (besides a toggle on/off DLC button)!

Still, we hope those of you who have been waiting for them to return again! Thanks a ton for your patience. You won’t have to wait much longer, partiers!

Update 1.0.9 is live with Quality of Life changes and Custom Story Creator improvements!

Create custom House Party stories easier with “CharacterGroups”, enjoy a new Spanish translation, and check out the new in-game teasers!

House Party Version 1.0.9 is out now! If you like getting creative with House Party, you’ll love the Custom Story Creator changes we made, doods and lady-doods.

Have you ever dreamed of making a party where everyone gets turned on as soon as you take off your shirt? Or where the whole party gangs up on Patrick? Or where all the guests meet up in the living room for a sweet no-pants-allowed dance party?

Yeah. You can do all that and much more way, way easier now, because we added an awesome new feature called “CharacterGroup” behaviors. These let you work faster and more effectively to create more complex stories than ever before.

How does it work? You can now create targeted groups of Characters and use GameEvent, Criteria, Event Trigger, and/or CriteriaGroup behaviors on them selectively or en masse. Not all GameEvents and Criteria are available for use with this system, but this should be super cool nonetheless!

If you’ve worked with the Custom Story Creator before, you already know how difficult it was to send mass instructions to characters – but you no longer have to send one-on-one instructions to them. This is huge, dudes!

Character groups should allow there to be more varied custom stories made by both new and experienced creators alike. We’re stoked to see how you guys use this sweet new story-crafting superpower.

Several previous issues regarding past updates breaking custom stories have also been fixed, so your current stories should work as intended again! We’ve made significant optimizations that will notably reduce the UI “lag” experienced when manipulating many CSC elements, dropdowns, text fields, and so on, too.

(Note: The new optimizations required minor changes to the CSC UI. Some functionalities like sorting/arranging elements are now controlled strictly through user-interactable elements like arrows, the copy/paste functions, and insert/remove.)

Update 1.0.9 also irons out some bugs (some of which were not just minor annoyances), adds some story and engine improvements, and includes a fresh new Spanish translation!

We’ve continued making progress on the user interface and functionality for selecting a holiday DLC pack, too. We still have more mechanics to work on before we can tie DLCs into the engine and bundle the Winter and Halloween holidays into individual downloadable packs, but we’re making good progress!

Plus, we added those two new objects around the party that will be used in our next guest expansion pack! If you want a sneak peek at what’s to come, explore the house and let us know what you think the new fixtures will be used for!

Have fun playing, party brahs! We can’t wait to see your custom stories.

House Party Stable Release 1.0.7 – Winter Holiday Update

Happy Holidays, partiers!

This winter, there are plenty of exciting new decorations around the house party! You’ll find pine garlands, hanging lights, glowing candy canes, star-shaped lights, ornaments, a snowman, and snowflake window decals all around Madison’s house.

The partygoers are dressed with holiday spirit, too; several of House Party’s characters are wearing Santa hats, elf hats, and even a festive sweater!

In this cheery update, it will be snowing lightly outside, you’ll be able to throw snowballs at other party guests, and Frank will be getting into the spirit of the holidays in a short new themed side-quest! It’s a little bigger than our Halloween update was, so we hope you enjoy it!
The winter update is live now…so what are you waiting for? Go play it, partiers! Deck the balls, doods!

House Party Stable Release 1.0.6 – POV Intimacy & UI Improvements

House Party Stable Release 1.0.6 is ready to play – and it’s packed with smoking hot new POV intimacy updates!

We’ve wanted to deliver an update focused on expanding the Explicit Add-On for a while now, so we’re hyped to share this with everyone and hope you’re stoked to explore the sweet stuff we added in this update!

So, what did we add? Check it out, doods:

  • Spicier Female Player Intimacy: The POV intimacy system will better correspond with the female player story. You can now access POV intimacy for the female content!

  • POV Intimacy Will Be More Gender-Accurate: Now female-female intimacy will prefer to use more gender accurate pairing acts – like scissoring (yeah, that’s new!) rather than male-female or male-male acts.

  • New Female-Centric POV Intimacy Poses: Scissoring, fingering, and female-centric sixty-nine

  • A Newly-Implemented Frank Cutscene: We added a cutscene that was only available through console commands to the gameplay. Enjoy a blowjob featuring the male protagonist and your favorite booze-hating bald dude!

  • Top & Bottom M/M Position Swapping: During POV sex between the male player and male NPCs, you can now also swap between top and bottom positions!

  • A New Main User Interface Sound Scheme: As you move and click around the menus in House Party, there are satisfying new sound effects that show when you’re hovering over and clicking on things.

  • Extra Polish For Custom Story Cosmetic Issues: Certain stories that made use of held drinks, or custom Character names, should see fewer immersion breaks. Additional small emotive, sound, and cosmetic issues for POV intimacy have also been remedied, too (check our patch notes)!

  • Bug Fixes: Vickie’s “Training Day”, Compubrah-VR bugs, and several UI issues have now been fixed!

Enjoy the steamy new explicit update, brahs. Have fun playing it again. And again. And again. Please have mercy on your keyboards, though, and be sure to clean your hands after checking out the new content.

House Party 1.0.3 Stable Release – Halloween Update

House Party Stable Release 1.0.3 - Halloween Update

Warning: There are spooky elements and creepy critters in this limited-time mini-update. If that makes the party too scary, read the instructions at the end of this post on how to not play the event and enjoy the original version of the game.

Happy Halloween, partiers!

The house looks a little different this Halloween, and so do some of your fellow partygoers!

Madison’s decked the place out with a few chilling decorations, and some of the more Halloween-minded guests have put on a sinister special accessory to celebrate. Be sure to fully explore the party, as you’ll encounter spine-chilling seasonal decor and a petrifying new limited-time cosmetic item!

This mini-update comes as a free temporary patch that’s available to all Steam players. The eerie visuals will revert back to normal approximately two weeks after Halloween, so enjoy them while you can!

Not in a Halloween mood? Are the new decorations too harrowing? To swap back to the regular base version of the game, go to the Properties for House Party in Steam, select “Betas”, and then choose either the “1.0.3” or “testing” beta branches to play the regular version! Feel free to do this at any time to get rid of the spooky seasonal appearance!

Note: At this time, the seasonal accessory and household decorations will be visible in all custom stories. To revert to the normal world aesthetics, please swap to the “1.0.3” or “testing” beta branches which host the regular version of the game.
